Job Description

We are seeking an experienced operational regulatory leader to join a large, complex public sector organisation in a key leadership position overseeing a critical licensing and compliance function.This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned people leader with experience in regulatory, compliance, licensing, assurance or other complex operational environments to make an immediate impact within a high-profile service delivery function.


About the Role


Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for leading a sizeable operational function, driving service delivery performance, developing team capability, and ensuring effective decision-making within a regulatory framework.


You will provide strategic and operational leadership across a geographically dispersed team, balancing operational priorities with continuous improvement initiatives and stakeholder expectations.

Some minimal travel required.


Key Responsibilities


  • Leadership and support
  • Oversee delivery of complex licensing and compliance-related activities
  • Drive operational performance, customer outcomes and service excellence
  • Support continuous improvement and process optimisation initiatives
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide leadership through change and organisational transformation
  • Ensure decisions are consistent with legislative, policy and regulatory requirements


About You


You will be a confident and credible leader with:


  • Significant experience leading operational teams and managers in change environments.
  • A background within regulatory, compliance, licensing, assurance, investigations or similar environments
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Experience managing operational performance and continuous improvement
  • The ability to quickly understand complex functions and provide clear direction
  • Sound judgement and the ability to operate effectively in a senior leadership environment


Experience within transport regulation is advantageous but not essential. We encourage applications from candidates with transferable experience from other government agencies, regulatory bodies, or complex service delivery environments.
