We have an exciting full-time, permanent opportunity for a commercially astute and influential experienced Senior Finance Business Partner to join our Financial Advisory team. Looking after the technology and data portfolio, you will partner with senior leaders and managers across Auckland Council, leading planning, budgeting and forecasting while turning complex financial information into clear, practical insights.


As a trusted adviser, you will constructively challenge thinking, identify opportunities and help the business make well-informed decisions that strengthen financial performance and support better outcomes for Tāmaki Makaurau.


Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Own budgeting, forecasting, long-term planning, month-end reporting, and financial performance monitoring.
  • Partner with senior leaders to support decision-making, prioritisation, and achievement of business objectives.
  • Assess business cases, funding requests, assumptions, costs, benefits, risks, and delivery plans to ensure robust investment outcomes.
  • Support portfolio financial management, governance processes, investment prioritisation, and performance tracking.
  • Building financial capability through coaching, training and practical learning resources
  • Driving continuous improvement across financial advisory services, processes and ways of working

You are an experienced finance professional who can build trusted relationships, communicate complex information clearly and confidently influence decision-making. Commercially minded and solutions focused, you bring strong analytical capability and sound judgement, ideally with experience providing strategic financial support to technology-focused businesses or portfolios.


You are confident constructively challenging stakeholders, work well in a fast-paced environment and enjoy sharing knowledge to lift financial capability across the wider business. A willingness to grow your understanding of te ao Māori, use basic te reo Māori and apply tikanga where appropriate will also be important.


Specifically, we are looking for:

  • A qualified CA, CPA, or equivalent professional with a relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Finance Business Partner supporting Technology and Data functions within a large and complex organisation.
  • Experience reviewing and challenging complex business cases, funding requests, investment proposals and financial assumptions, with the confidence to influence senior decision-makers.
  • Advanced financial planning, forecasting, modelling, and performance management skills, with the ability to identify risks, opportunities, and value-for-money outcomes.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to challenge assumptions, influence senior leaders, and drive informed decision-making.
