Job Description

We are seeking Senior Investigators to lead and support complex investigations relating to anti-money laundering and countering financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) obligations. Working within a highly respected regulatory environment, you will undertake sensitive and often high-stakes investigations, assess potential breaches, and contribute to regulatory interventions that help protect New Zealand's financial system

Are you an experienced investigator who thrives on complexity, enjoys uncovering the facts, and can drive outcomes in high-profile regulatory environments?

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage complex investigations from initial assessment through to resolution.
  • Gather, analyse and assess evidence, financial information and intelligence.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulated entities, legal advisors and industry professionals.
  • Prepare high-quality investigation reports, recommendations and regulatory documentation.
  • Contribute to enforcement and compliance outcomes through sound judgement and robust investigative practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and help shape investigative best practice.

About you:

You will be a naturally curious and highly capable investigator with a track record of delivering outcomes in complex environments. While direct AML/CFT experience is advantageous, we are equally interested in candidates from broader regulatory, enforcement, legal, financial crime or investigative backgrounds.

You may have experience in:

  • Regulatory investigations
  • Financial crime, fraud or misconduct investigations
  • Law enforcement or intelligence agencies
  • Legal practice, litigation or prosecution environments
  • Forensic accounting or forensic services
  • Risk, compliance or governance functions

In addition, you will bring:

  • Exceptional investigative and analytical skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing capability.
  • Experience navigating complex legislative or regulatory frameworks.
  • The ability to work autonomously, adapt quickly and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce clear, evidence-based findings.
  • A proven ability to drive delivery and achieve outcomes in fast-paced environments.

What's on offer?

These are initially fixed-term contract opportunities running through to 30 June 2027, with an ASAP start required. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced investigators who are immediately available or coming to the end of an existing contract and are looking to apply their expertise to meaningful, high-impact work.

This is an outstanding opportunity to contribute to matters of genuine public interest while working alongside highly skilled professionals in a collaborative and purpose-driven environment.
