We’re looking for an experienced Senior HR Advisor to join Millennium Hotels and Resorts, primarily based at Grand Millennium Auckland.


This is a hands-on, commercially focused HR role where you’ll work closely with Managers, Heads of Department and leaders to help them get the best from their people. While Grand Millennium Auckland will be your home base, you’ll also provide support to other hotels across our Northern region.


Hospitality is fast paced, people focused and rarely predictable. You’ll need to be comfortable balancing the immediate needs of an operational business with longer-term priorities around leadership capability, engagement, retention and building great employee experiences.


About the role


As our Senior HR Advisor, you’ll be a trusted partner to our operational leaders, providing practical advice, coaching and constructive challenge across the full employee lifecycle.


You’ll support leaders to build their confidence and capability in managing their teams, while ensuring our people practices are consistent, commercially sound and aligned with employment legislation and our wider HR strategy.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Partnering with the General Manager and HODs to align people priorities with business objectives
  • Providing trusted HR advice and coaching across a broad range of people matters
  • Managing employment relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary processes and mediation
  • Coaching managers to confidently manage performance, engagement and employee relations
  • Supporting the employee lifecycle including onboarding, development, performance, remuneration, engagement and exit
  • Implementing and embedding HR policies, processes and initiatives
  • Supporting HR projects and organisational change
  • Using HR data and trends to provide meaningful insights and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Building strong relationships across our hotels and wider HR team.


What we’re looking for


You’ll already be an experienced HR generalist or business partner who is comfortable operating in a busy, multi-site or operational environment.


You’ll bring:


  • Around five years’ experience in a generalist HR or HR Business Partner role
  • Tertiary qualifications in HR or a related discipline
  • Strong practical knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation
  • Proven experience managing employment relations matters from disciplinary processes through to mediation
  • The confidence to build credibility with senior stakeholders and challenge constructively when required
  • Strong coaching, influencing and relationship-building skills
  • Experience using data and insights to support decision-making
  • Excellent organisation, attention to detail and time management
  • A practical, responsive and service-focused approach.


Most importantly, you’ll enjoy working alongside operational leaders rather than simply advising from the sidelines. You’ll know when to provide the answer, when to coach and when to challenge, helping our leaders develop greater ownership of their people responsibilities.
