Are you an experienced orthopaedic theatre professional ready to take ownership of a specialist service and step into a role where your expertise, organisation and people skills genuinely matter?


We’re looking for an Orthopaedic Team Lead to join a modern private surgical hospital in Rotorua, providing clinical expertise, operational coordination and day-to-day leadership across a busy orthopaedic theatre service.

About the Role


The hospital operates three theatres, with two dedicated to a range of orthopaedic procedures, including some spinal cases. With approximately 10 orthopaedic lists per week, this is an established service offering variety, responsibility and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution.


Reporting to the Theatre Services Manager, you’ll be the orthopaedic expert within the theatre environment, ensuring the service is well coordinated, appropriately resourced and supported by a capable, collaborative team.


This is a genuinely hands-on leadership position, combining management responsibilities with clinical practice. You’ll need to be comfortable taking ownership of the operational detail while also being ready to step in and scrub when required.


What You’ll Be Responsible For


  • Providing day-to-day leadership and clinical expertise across the orthopaedic theatre service.
  • Coordinating orthopaedic operating lists and ensuring the right people and resources are in place.
  • Managing staff rostering and supporting effective workforce planning.
  • Ensuring sufficient loan sets, instruments and consumables are available for scheduled procedures.
  • Maintaining a strong clinical presence and scrubbing when required to support operating lists.
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing team members to build confidence and capability.
  • Working collaboratively with surgeons, theatre colleagues and hospital leadership to ensure a smooth, high-quality service.
  • Supporting best practice, patient safety and continuous improvement across the orthopaedic environment.


You’ll have the autonomy to bring your expertise to the role, while working closely with the Theatre Services Manager and wider team to deliver consistently excellent outcomes.


About You


We’re open to hearing from experienced Registered Theatre Nurses and Registered ODPs/Anaesthetic Technicians who bring recent orthopaedic scrubbing experience and are ready to combine clinical expertise with operational leadership.

You’ll be someone who enjoys taking ownership, is confident in your clinical knowledge and understands what it takes to keep a busy theatre service running effectively.

Previous leadership or coordination experience is valued, but we’re also interested in senior orthopaedic theatre professionals who are ready to step up and have the capability to grow into the role.


You’ll need:


  • Current NZ registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered ODP/Anaesthetic Technician, with a current practising certificate.
  • Recent and substantial orthopaedic scrubbing experience.
  • Strong organisational, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A genuine interest in supporting and developing others.
  • A commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety and positive team culture.
