Are you a proactive Health & Safety professional who thrives in operational environments and enjoys partnering with front line teams to drive positive safety outcomes?


We are recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join a major water services organisation across the Wellington region. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in water, utilities, infrastructure, industrial or high-risk operational environments who is looking to make an immediate impact in a critical public services organisation.


This contract opportunity will run through to February 2027 and offers a varied role with a strong field-based focus, supporting operational teams, contractors and leaders to strengthen health, safety and wellbeing performance across treatment facilities, maintenance activities, automation systems and operational projects


About the role


As a trusted safety partner, you will provide practical and visible health and safety support while helping to foster a strong safety culture across the business.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Championing positive health, safety and wellbeing initiatives across operational teams
  • Conducting site inspections, audits, observations and assurance activities
  • Supporting risk identification, assessment and control implementation
  • Leading and facilitating incident investigations and corrective actions
  • Supporting emergency preparedness activities, drills and response planning
  • Coaching leaders, workers and contractors to enhance safety capability
  • Supporting contractor management and contractor health and safety performance
  • Providing insights, reporting and recommendations to operational leadership teams
  • Supporting permit-to-work processes and critical risk management programmes


About you


We're looking for an engaging and practical Health & Safety professional who enjoys working alongside operational teams and influencing positive outcomes through strong relationships and credible advice.


You will ideally bring:


  • At least 3 years' experience in a Health & Safety Advisory or operational safety role
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation
  • Experience conducting investigations, audits and assurance activities
  • Experience supporting risk management and continuous improvement initiatives
  • The ability to coach and influence leaders, employees and contractors
  • Experience working within contractor and multi-PCBU environments
  • Full New Zealand Driver Licence
