About the Business:


The Salvation Army Bridge Services provide a range of effective support services in both residential and community based settings that use a range of evidence-based holistic approaches to reduce the physical, physiological and social harm that can result from the use of alcohol and or other drugs. The Salvation Army Wellington Bridge services provide safe, integrated, high quality treatment and support services to people whose lives have been affected by alcohol and/or other substance use.


About the Role:


The Court Caseworker offers recommendations to Judges and Courts personnel on whether referral to a specialist addiction assessor or appropriate addiction treatment service is necessary or desirable for tangata presenting before the courts following been screened as having an addiction and/or harmful substance use problem.


What will your responsibilities be:


  • Conduct brief AOD Assessment to tangata whai ora presenting via self-referral, judicial or legal referral or via allied services, to assist Judiciary in their decision-making processes.
  • Provide clinically appropriate support and care during brief AOD assessment utilising appropriate CEP screening tools.
  • Develop appropriate treatment/support pathway for tangata whai ora on completion of brief AOD assessment.
  • Network with legal and judicial representatives of outcome/s of brief AOD assessment.
  • Liaise with local/regional AOD and/or mental health, social, iwi, health, educational services and refer tangata whai ora appropriately.
  • Record all applicable data (brief assessment, screening tools, correspondence, referrals) on to SAMIS.
  • Connection with tāngata whai ora, whānau and community services.
  • Working within the framework of The Salvation Army Bridge Programme Model of Treatment.
  • Implementation of the Salvation Army Bridge Programme Policies and Procedure.


Our ideal candidate will:


  • Degree in Addiction. An alternative qualification or an alternative relevant qualification such as social work, clinical psychology, counselling if there is accompanying evidence of understanding and work in reducing substance related harms.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good cross-cultural understanding.
  • Dapaanz (or an alternative equivalent) Practitioner Registration.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development relevant to addiction studies.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment, sharing information, ideas and effective practices while maintaining client and service privacy, and confidentiality.

Hours of work: This is a permanent full time role of 40 hours per week Monday to Friday however, part time hours may be considered for the right candidate.
