About the Role:


Grow your leadership through supporting the Manager-Residence in the day-to-day operational leadership and management of our secure unit.


The Assistant Manager-Residence is responsible for coordinating and supporting all residential operations, workforce deployment, service delivery, and compliance activities to ensure the residence operates safely, effectively, and in accordance with organisational, contractual and legislative requirements.


This position is pivotal for maintaining operational flow in the absence of the Manager-Residence and is expected to support the Manager to lead, guide and support the provision of quality Care Services.


This is a permanent, full-time role (40 hours per week) Sunday - Thursday (9am - 5:30pm) based at our residential facility on the outskirts of Christchurch.


The Assistant Manager-Residence will be required to be on call on a three-week rotational roster and the compensation for this is reflected in the remuneration for this position.


Barnardos Te Poutama Ārahi Rangatahi is a therapeutic integrated residence service for up to eight adolescent males who have harmful sexual behaviours and have been referred by Oranga Tamariki offices throughout New Zealand. The Service is responsible for the care, education and therapeutic interventions to assist rangatahi make positive changes.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate residential staffing resources to meet operational and therapeutic requirements
  • Ensure operational procedures are implemented effectively across the residence
  • Support the management of incidents, risks and operational issues
  • Provide operational management during periods of absence of the Manager-Residence
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and support to Residential team, including coaching, guidance and performance feedback to staff
  • Maintain productive working relationships with rangatahi, whānau and key stakeholders
  • Develop effective relationships with Oranga Tamariki and other partner agencies
  • Support engagement with Iwi, Māori and Pacific communities


Skills and Experience:


  • Relevant New Zealand qualification in Human Services, Education, Management, Business Administration or other related/relevant fields
  • Experience in and passion for working with youth in residential settings
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Residential Care Regulations (1996)
  • Excellent planning and organisational abilities
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong community relationships, engaging effectively with stakeholders, whānau, and local services to ensure the best outcomes for rangatahi
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of cultural collaboration and partnership in achieving shared goals for young people
  • A full clean NZ driver's license
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
