About Unite Recruit

Unite Recruit is a New Zealand-owned recruitment agency specialising in providing skilled and reliable workers across civil construction, traffic management, logistics and manufacturing.

Our Wellington team is growing, and we are looking for a Traffic Operations Support person to join our team and help keep our traffic labour-hire operations running smoothly.

About the Role

This is a hands-on coordination and operations support role working closely with our Recruitment Consultant.

You will help coordinate traffic management workers, communicate with clients and candidates, fill vacancies, manage changes and support the day-to-day running of our labour-hire operation.

This is not a traditional administration role. You will be communicating with people throughout the day, solving staffing problems, responding to changes and helping make sure our clients have the workers they need.

The role would suit someone who is organised, proactive, confident on the phone and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting the Recruitment Consultant with daily traffic labour-hire operations.
  • Contacting workers to confirm availability and fill shifts.
  • Coordinating and confirming bookings with clients and workers.
  • Responding to worker absences, cancellations and last-minute changes.
  • Helping identify and arrange suitable replacement workers when required.
  • Communicating with workers, candidates and clients by phone, email and text.
  • Assisting with recruitment, candidate screening and onboarding.
  • Maintaining accurate worker, candidate and job information.
  • Following up timesheets, documentation and other operational requirements.
  • Advertising vacancies and assisting with candidate sourcing.
  • Keeping recruitment and operational systems up to date.
  • Escalating significant issues to the Recruitment Consultant or Branch Manager.
  • Completing general administrative tasks that support the smooth running of the team.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people and is comfortable taking ownership of tasks.

You will ideally be:

  • Confident – comfortable picking up the phone and speaking with workers and clients.
  • Organised – able to manage multiple bookings, workers and priorities at once.
  • Proactive – someone who sees what needs to be done and gets on with it.
  • Reliable – understands the importance of following through on commitments.
  • Resilient – able to remain calm when plans change or a worker cancels at short notice.
  • People-focused – enjoys building positive relationships with workers and clients.
  • Tech confident – comfortable using computers, email and business systems and able to learn new software quickly.
  • Driven – interested in developing your skills and taking on more responsibility.

Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Recruitment or labour hire
  • Traffic management
  • Civil construction
  • Logistics or workforce coordination
  • Rostering or scheduling
  • Customer service
  • Operations support

Industry experience is advantageous but not essential. We are more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, communication skills and ability to learn.

A full NZ driver's licence is required due to the nature of the role and occasional operational requirements.

Working in a Fast-Paced Environment

Labour hire can change quickly.

A worker may call in sick, a client may need an additional person, or a shift may change at short notice. You'll need to be comfortable juggling multiple priorities and working through problems quickly.

If you enjoy being busy, communicating with people and finding solutions, you'll enjoy this role.

After-Hours / On-Call

Traffic labour-hire operations can require support outside normal office hours.

As part of the role, you will participate in an agreed rostered after-hours/on-call arrangement.

When rostered on-call, responsibilities may include:

  • Responding to urgent client and worker calls or messages.
  • Managing worker absences and replacement requirements.
  • Coordinating urgent booking changes.
  • Keeping clients and workers updated.
  • Escalating significant issues when required.

You will not be expected to be available every night. After-hours responsibilities will be shared through an agreed roster.

During your initial training period, you will work normal office hours to learn our systems, processes and the way our traffic labour-hire operation works before joining the agreed roster.

Career Progression

Build Your Career in Recruitment

This position provides a clear pathway into recruitment and workforce management.
