Job Title: Sales Assistant

Location: Lake Tekapo, Canterbury

Position Type: Permanent, Full-time

Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week (Rostered shifts may fall on any day from Monday to Sunday,

including public holidays)

Pay Rate: $26.50 - $28.00 per hour, depending on relevant experience

About the company and the Role


The Better Batter is a busy, well-established takeaway food business in Lake Tekapo. We are looking for a friendly, reliable and efficient Sales Assistant to join our team.

The role focuses on customer service and sales, including taking customer orders, processing payments, handing completed orders to customers, and completing assigned opening and closing duties.


Key Responsibilities


  • Deliver prompt, friendly, and efficient service by greeting customers and assisting with food and beverage selections.
  • Handle customer enquiries, provide menu recommendations, and address service requests professionally.
  • Process customer orders accurately and communicate specific dietary or customisation requests to the food preparation team.
  • Check, pack and hand completed orders to customers.
  • Respond to routine customer concerns and refer significant complaints to a supervisor.
  • Operate cash registers and EFTPOS terminals to process payments accurately via cash, card, or contactless payment methods.
  • Assist with till balancing, count cash floats, and maintain accurate end-of-shift transaction logs.
  • Replenish drinks, sauces, packaging and other customer service supplies.
  • Receive, unpack, and inspect incoming inventory, checking deliveries against invoices and logging stock levels.
  • Implement First-In, First-Out (FIFO) stock rotation procedures and accurately record daily product wastage.
  • Maintain clean and sanitised service areas, workstations, and utensils in accordance with the business’s Food Control Plan and workplace health and safety procedures.
  • Execute daily cleaning schedules and sanitising routines before, during, and after service periods.
  • Collaborate with team members during peak periods to maintain efficient workflow and minimise customer wait times.
  • Report inventory shortages, damaged stock, or equipment maintenance needs promptly to a supervisor.


What we’re looking for


  • Minimum of 6 months of relevant experience in customer service, food service, or hospitality
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.
