Job Description

A good step up for a Data Engineer join a well known NZ organisation that are enhancing their data landscape.


About the Role


You'll lead the design, development and optimisation of data products and infrastructure across the organisation, working closely with stakeholders, analysts and the digital solutions team to deliver reliable, scalable, high-performing data solutions. It's a role that balances hands-on engineering with strategic contribution, ideal if you enjoy both building and influencing.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and data products
  • Lead the implementation and optimisation of modern data architectures and platforms
  • Ensure data is reliable, secure, accessible and fit for business use
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
  • Support and mentor junior Data Engineers
  • Drive continuous improvement in data engineering practices, standards and governance
  • Work closely with analytics, reporting and AI teams to enable advanced insights
  • Monitor and optimise data performance, quality and availability across systems
  • Contribute to strategic data initiatives supporting business growth and transformation

What You'll Need

  • At least 2 years' experience with cloud-based and on-premises data warehousing environments
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake plus SQL
  • Python experience for data engineering (ETL/ELT, automation, pipeline development)
  • Good understanding of data modelling, ETL/ELT processes and data architecture principles
  • Experience optimising data performance, quality and governance
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Full NZ work rights required
  • Mentoring experience highly regarded
  • Exposure to dbt, Data Factory or Databricks a bonus
