Job Description

Kia mahi ngātahi mō Pōneke mō tōna āpōpō | Working together for Wellington's future

We’re looking for four new team members to join our busy Tip Shop and Recycle Centre at Southern Landfill in Happy Valley:

  • 5 days per week | Sunday to Thursday
  • 4 days per week | Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • 3 days per week | Saturday to Monday
  • 2 days per week | Friday and Saturday

Āu ake mahi | What you'll do

You’ll be someone who enjoys being active, working with people and delivering a great customer experience. You’ll be dealing with the public every day, receiving, sorting and diverting goods that would otherwise go to landfill.

This is a hands-on role at a busy operational site, so you’ll be comfortable working on your feet in all sorts of weather. Rain, hail, shine or Wellington wind, you’ll bring plenty of energy, enthusiasm and a positive attitude!

The role is a combination of working in the Tip Shop and the Transfer Station. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Loading and unloading goods from vehicles
  • Pricing and displaying goods in the Tip Shop
  • Operating the point-of-sale system and handling cash
  • Processing e-waste
  • Keeping the site clean and tidy
  • Providing friendly, helpful advice to customers about the correct use of our recycling facilities
  • Working alongside Transfer Station staff

Everyone loves knowing they’re contributing to something positive, and that’s exactly what you’ll get from this role. Our customers tell us every day how much they value the Tip Shop and the role it plays in giving unwanted items a second life and keeping reusable goods out of landfill.

If you enjoy being active, working with people and making a difference, we’d love to hear from you.

Ngā tohu me ngā wheako | Qualifications and experience

You’ll bring:

  • A good level of physical fitness
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Confidence using computers and the ability to learn our touchscreen point-of-sale system
  • A practical, can-do attitude
  • Plenty of enthusiasm and energy

Experience in a customer-facing, retail, recycling or operational environment would be great, but it’s not essential. What matters most is your attitude and willingness to get stuck in.
