Job Description

Love a good conversation? Turn your telephone skills into a career with one of New Zealand's most iconic media brands.

How You'll Deliver

Are you the kind of person who lights up on the telephone? Who sees a "no" as a starting point, not a full stop? We're looking for an energetic Outbound Telesales Consultant to help grow newspaper subscriptions across NZME's trusted, iconic publications.

This part-time role, working 5.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m., Monday to Friday, is ideal if you thrive in fast-paced, target-driven environments and genuinely enjoy connecting with people. You'll be building rapport with customers, understanding their needs, and presenting tailored subscription offers that deliver real value — all while playing a meaningful role in connecting New Zealanders with quality journalism they trust.

How You'll Add Value

Using outbound calling, you'll connect with residential and business customers to promote newspaper subscriptions and related offers. Day to day, you'll:

  • Call past, cancelled and prospective subscribers with compelling offers
  • Educate customers on subscription options and their benefits
  • Support marketing-led sales campaigns and promotions
  • Cross-sell and upsell NZME products where relevant
  • Resolve basic customer queries and escalate issues when needed
  • Accurately process sales and update customer records
  • Use performance data to refine your approach and hit targets
  • Collaborate closely with your team to share insights and lift results

To thrive here, you'll bring:

  • Experience in telesales, customer service or a contact centre environment
  • Confidence communicating over the telephone
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to tailor your pitch
  • Attention to detail and accurate data entry skills
  • A positive, team-focused attitude
  • The motivation to meet and exceed sales targets
  • A genuine interest in media and alignment with NZME's values

Why It's Worth It

Joining NZME means being part of a supportive, high-energy sales team with real backing behind you. You'll receive comprehensive training and ongoing coaching to set you up for success, along with competitive base pay and performance incentives to keep you motivated. Part-time hours offer genuine flexibility, and with opportunities to grow your sales career across one of New Zealand's most recognisable media organisations, this role is a great place to start — or continue — your journey.

You'll enjoy a range of benefits including complimentary NZ Herald Premium, VIVA Premium and BusinessDesk subscriptions, wellbeing support and counselling services, parental leave benefits, professional development opportunities, recognition programmes, exclusive staff discounts, and access to tickets through NZME's event network.

Working Rights

All applicants will be asked about their working rights in New Zealand. Examples include citizen, resident, visa holder, or requiring visa sponsorship.
