Financial Crime Risk Senior Analyst


Business Banking & Corporate Banking (BB & CB)


At ASB, our purpose is to accelerate progress for all New Zealanders. We're looking for a proactive and commercially minded Financial Crime Risk Senior Analyst to join our Business Banking and Corporate Banking Financial Crime Risk team.


This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting ASB and our customers from financial crime by investigating, assessing, and managing financial crime risks while supporting strong regulatory compliance and risk management practices.


Te Tūranga | The role


Reporting to the Senior Compliance Manager (BB & CB), you will be responsible for monitoring and investigating customer activity, identifying emerging financial crime risks, and providing specialist analysis and insights to support risk-based decision making across the business.


You'll work closely with stakeholders across Business Banking, Corporate Banking, and wider ASB teams to:


  • Investigate alerts, exceptions, and unusual customer activity to identify potential financial crime risks.
  • Provide high-quality analysis, recommendations, and technical support to business initiatives.
  • Identify control gaps, emerging risks, and opportunities for enhanced risk management practices.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of controls, procedures, guidance, and team processes.
  • Deliver meaningful insights, metrics, and intelligence that support effective decision making.
  • Promote a strong risk culture through ownership, constructive challenge, and timely escalation.

We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys solving complex problems while collaborating with others.


You will bring:


  • Proven experience within Financial Crime, AML/CFT, sanctions, compliance, risk, or banking environments .
  • Strong knowledge of financial crime compliance, AML/CFT, and sanctions risk.
  • A proactive approach , with the ability to quickly upskill, adapt to changing priorities, and work at pace.
  • Excellent analytical, investigation, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to communicate confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A passion for sharing insights, lessons learned, and best practices to strengthen team capability.
  • A continuous improvement mindset , with a desire to simplify processes, enhance controls, and improve the way we work.
  • Exposure to SQL or similar data analytics tools would be advantageous.
  • ACAMS, ICTA, ACFC qualification, or a willingness to obtain one.
