Job Description

BestStart Montessori Rongotai is looking for a caring and enthusiastic Teacher-in-Training to join our warm, close-knit team.


Our Montessori environment respects each child as a capable learner, supporting tamariki aged 2–6 to develop independence, confidence, and a love of learning. You’ll work alongside our teaching team to provide nurturing, high-quality care and learning experiences while building your own teaching practice.


About the Role


This is a permanent, full-time position of 40 hours per week , Monday to Friday, within our centre hours of 8:00 am–5:30 pm .


You wll:


  • Build positive relationships with children and whānau
  • Support learning through play, routines, and everyday interactions
  • Assist with planning and extending children’s learning
  • Help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment
  • Champion our Montessori philosophy and children’s independence

What We’re Looking For


You’ll be enrolled in, or committed to enrolling in, a Level 7 ECE Bachelor’s degree or Graduate Diploma and bring:


  • A genuine passion for supporting children’s independence and wellbeing
  • A warm, positive, and reliable approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • An understanding of child-led learning and Te Whāriki
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice
  • A willingness to learn and embrace Montessori philosophy
