The Office of Global Engagement is seeking an experienced and strategic Associate Director, International Relations to lead and operationalise Massey University's international relations and global partnership activities. This leadership role will play a critical part in delivering the University's internationalisation objectives and strengthening Massey's global presence. Leading a team of international experts, you will drive the development and implementation of international relations initiatives that strengthen Massey's engagement with global communities, institutional partners, government agencies and international stakeholders. You will work closely with academic and professional services leaders to support global partnership growth, research collaboration, knowledge exchange and international reputation-building activities.

As a key member of the Global Engagement leadership team, you will:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for Massey's international relations portfolio.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing international relations team.
  • Develop and implement annual international relations plans and priorities.
  • Strengthen and expand strategic partnerships with leading international institutions and organisations.
  • Support the University's global research, teaching and engagement objectives.
  • Lead engagement with government agencies, diplomatic missions, international networks and partner universities.
  • Oversee international agreements, partnership governance and risk management activities.
  • Provide expert advice on international relations and geopolitical developments that may impact the University.
  • Contribute to the delivery of Massey's international growth and reputation goals.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Significant leadership experience within international relations, higher education, government, diplomacy or a related sector.
  • Demonstrated success developing and managing complex international partnerships and stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning capability, with the ability to translate strategy into action.
  • Proven people leadership experience, including leading and developing highperforming teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Experience working across diverse cultural and international contexts.
  • Strong judgement, relationship management and problem-solving abilities.
  • A collaborative and outcomes-focused leadership style.
  • A commitment to fostering inclusive, respectful and culturally responsive workplaces.
