The Opportunity | Ara Whiwhi Mahi

As an Intelligence & Insight Specialist (Level 2), you will provide trusted performance reporting, insights and advice that help senior leaders, Ministers and external stakeholders understand Inland Revenue's performance and outcomes.


This is an opportunity to contribute to some of Inland Revenue's public-facing reporting. Your work will help inform decisions made by senior leaders, and support transparency and accountability across government.


Your key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver performance reporting, insights and advice that support senior decision-making through monthly reporting.
  • Thought leadership of performance measurement design as well as development and implementation, including ensuring measures meet Audit requirements
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Annual Report, quarterly reports to the Minister of Revenue and other key reporting products.
  • Support responses to Official Information Act requests, Parliamentary Questions, media enquiries, and statistics released externally on IR’s website or through international surveys.
  • Develop and maintain sustainable, fit-for-purpose reporting assets and products.
  • Embed external reporting requirements to support consistency and integrity of externally reported information.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across Inland Revenue's analytical community and key stakeholders.
  • Coach and mentor colleagues to build capability and continuous improvement.

About you | Mōu

To be successful in this role, you'll be a curious analytics professional who enjoys turning complex information into clear, meaningful insights. You'll be comfortable working with data and reporting products, while also building strong relationships and communicating effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.


You will bring:

  • Proven experience working across data, analytics, and reporting environments – at a minimum: complex datasets, data models, SQL, Snowflake, and Power BI.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends, understand performance drivers and provide evidence-based insights and advice.
  • Experience producing reports, insights and performance information, with a focus on accuracy, consistency of methodology, and quality assurance.
  • The ability to communicate complex information clearly through written reports, presentations and data visualisations.
  • Well-established stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work with people at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong attention to detail with a sound understanding of data quality and data lineage practices to support credible reporting.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality work to agreed timeframes.


About us | Mō mātou

Enterprise & Integrity Services (E&IS) provides corporate and support services to the organisation and ensures the integrity of the organisation and the tax system is maintained. The group delivers advice, information and processes to enable Inland Revenue to operate effectively, efficiently and safely.


The Performance and Reporting team is part of Strategy and Performance. The team provides trusted performance information and insights to support accountability, decision-making and continuous improvement across Inland Revenue. We are responsible for the external Performance Measurement Framework, and produce key external accountability documents, including the Annual Report and quarterly reports to the Minister of Revenue, while also supporting senior leaders with timely performance reporting and analysis.


The team is made up of Insight and Intelligence Specialists, Domain Principals and Domain Specialists who work together to deliver high-quality reporting and insights to internal and external audiences.
