Lower Hutt location

As a Community Support Worker, no two days are the same. Your role will adapt to the unique needs, strengths, dreams, and goals of the people you support.

If you're looking for a traditional healthcare role, this may not be the right fit. We need someone who can think outside the square, take initiative, and support people to engage in their community, pursue their passions, and make the most of every day.

We have a casual opportunity available in central Lower Hutt. In this role, you will be supporting a young lady to live as independently as possible within her own home. She has strong ties within her community and attends our Aspiration Centre in Wellington City. She enjoys swimming, craft, baking, and socialising with others.

It is expected that you will also be oriented to other homes, as this placement is temporary.

We offer variety of shifts: morning, afternoon, evening and sleepovers. We are looking for someone with flexibility over the weekends and evenings.

A driver's licence is essential, as this role involves supporting people to access the community and participate in local activities.

Skills and Experience

We are seeking someone who is:

  • Proactive and motivated to support people to engage in meaningful activities
  • Access their community and enjoy a variety of social and recreational opportunities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and supportively with family, colleagues and the person you support

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English is a pre-requisite to be considered for this role
  • Able to pass a NZ police check
  • Reliability, commitment, and passion for working with people
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence (essential)
  • An interest in attaining a Community Support Worker Level Three or above qualification- we can support you to achieve this while you work
  • The ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and email

If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:

  • Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, or
  • A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.

What the role offers:

  • Ongoing in-house skills development and support to achieve an NZQA Health and Wellbeing qualification - earn while you learn!
  • A meaningful, life changing career pathway
  • Pay rates from $23.97 - $29.68 per hour
