Programmed is a leading provider of open space and facilities maintenance services. We are currently looking for an Assistant Gardener to join our horticulture team at Waikumete Cemetery.


In this role, you will work alongside experienced gardeners and a supervisor, learning and developing practical horticultural skills while helping maintain the cemetery grounds to a high standard.


Your main responsibility will be to look, learn and act on the skills and knowledge you are shown. You will assist with the day-to-day maintenance of the cemetery.


Working at Waikumete Cemetery requires a high level of care, respect and attention to details. You will be part of a team that takes pride in maintaining a clean, well-presented and welcoming environment for families and visitors.


No extensive horticulture experience is required for the right person. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, reliability and pride in your work are what we are looking for. You will receive hands-on training and support from experienced members of the team, with the opportunity to build your skills and progress towards a Qualified Gardener role and a career in horticulture.

  • Naturally, you will have passion for green spaces and enjoying working outdoors
  • Previous experience in horticulture would be viewed as a positive but not necessary
  • A Clean full or restricted New Zealand Class1 driver licence and the ability to drive manual vehicles is a MUST for this role.
  • Willing to listen & learn how to do things on site.
  • Learn & grow into the horticulture industry.

The work will offer you a great opportunity to develop skills across the wider range of services deliver, rather than a single skillset (e.g. horticulture and turf management)

You will be working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (5-days roster).


There is also some overtime opportunity at a rate of time and half after 40 hours worked.
