Kia mahi ngātahi mō Pōneke mō tōna āpōpō | Working together for Wellington's future

Are you an experienced building compliance professional who loves leading people, solving complex problems, and making a genuine impact on your community?

We’re looking for a Team Leader Compliance & Audit to lead a high-performing team responsible for building compliance, compliance schedules, Building Warrants of Fitness, pool safety, audits, and regulatory assurance across the city. This role is a key part of ensuring Wellington's buildings remain safe, compliant, and resilient while supporting the Council's Building Consent Authority accreditation and audit performance.

You will also be responsible for supporting BCA accreditation and MBIE audit requirements.

No two days are the same. One day you might be leading a challenging compliance investigation, the next you'll be supporting audit readiness, mentoring staff, collaborating with industry stakeholders, or contributing to city-wide resilience planning.

  • A relevant qualification that meets the minimum requirements of Regulation 18 and/or proven relevant technical experience
  • Significant experience within New Zealand's building, construction, compliance, or regulatory environment

  • Proven people leadership experience and a passion for developing high-performing teams
  • The confidence to navigate complex compliance issues and difficult conversations
  • Excellent relationship-building, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • A customer-focused approach balanced with sound regulatory judgement.
