Job Description

Tradestaff Hawke’s Bay is looking for an experienced Drainlayer to join a civil construction team in Hastings.

This is a great opportunity for someone with solid drainage experience who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in quality workmanship, and works well as part of a crew.


As a Drainlayer, you’ll be involved in installing and maintaining drainage infrastructure across civil construction projects. You’ll work alongside an experienced team to complete work safely, accurately, and to a high standard.


Location: Hastings, Hawke’s Bay

Start date: ASAP

Pay rate: $30–$40 per hour + weekly pay

  • Key responsibilitiesInstall stormwater, sewer, and water reticulation systems
  • Read plans and assist with setting out drainage works
  • Excavate, lay, connect, and test drainage pipes
  • Install culverts, manholes, sumps, and associated structures
  • Assist around excavators and other civil plant where required
  • Complete work in line with relevant NZ standards and site requirements
  • Work closely with the wider site team to deliver quality outcomes
  • What we’re looking forProven experience in drainlaying or civil drainage
  • Experience with pipe laying, culverts, and associated drainage works
  • Ability to work safely in trenches and excavation environments
  • Good understanding of site health and safety
  • Confined spaces ticket desireable
  • Full NZ Class 1 Driver Licence and reliable transport
  • Reliable, physically fit, and comfortable with hands-on work
  • WTR endorsement is an advantage but not essential
