Carters Welding & Fabrication is a small, family-owned engineering business based 15 minutes south of Pirongia.


We pride ourselves on versatility and high-quality workmanship. You won't be just another number here; you'll be a key part of a tight-knit four-person team.


The Crew: You'll work directly alongside the business owner, who brings 25 years of welding and fabrication experience to every job, and 2 other dedicated staff members each bringing their own set of skills to the team.

  • 9-Day Fortnights: Every second Friday is yours. Enjoy a guaranteed 3 day weekend every fortnight to recharge and do what you love.

What You'll Be Doing:


  • On-Site Crack Repairs: Expertly using arc air, gasless wire, and 7018 electrodes to repair mining, quarry, earthmoving, farming and forestry equipment on site.
  • Wear Protection: Performing build up and hardfacing on-site to protect high-wear machinery components.
  • Maintenance: On-Site fitting work during maintenance shutdowns.
  • Workshop Fab: Structural and general fabrication using flux cored and solid wire MIG.
  • Certified Repairs: Handling LT400 certified welding repairs on heavy transport vehicles.
  • Technical Execution: Reading fabrication drawings accurately and working unsupervised to a high standard.
  • Tig welding (bonus but not required): We handle a bit of everything, which occasionally includes TIG welding for things like aluminium boat repairs and small stainless steel jobs.


What We Need From You:


  • Trade Qualified: Heavy Fabrication (or equivalent proven time-served experience).
  • Quality Focused: You treat a quick site repair with the same precision as a custom build.
  • Maintenance Pro: Solid experience in machinery repairs and hardfacing.
  • Welding Proficiency: Ability to pass a flux cored certification in all positions.
  • Team Player: A willingness to lead jobs assigned to you and to share your personal knowledge and skill set with the team.
  • Ownership: You're not afraid to put your hand up if something isn't right.
  • Initiative: You can look at a drawing or a broken machine, solve the puzzle, and get it done.
  • Respect: You take pride in looking after company vehicles and equipment.
  • Reliability: Ability to pass drug and alcohol tests (pre-employment and random) is a must.
  • Own Hand Tools: You must provide your own hand tools, a tool account will be provided to assist with purchasing any extra tools you may need.
  • Logistics: A full class 1 manual license, you must be confident driving a 4x4 truck off road (no requirement for an HT license) and confidently back a trailer in tight places.
  • Communication: Exceptional English (written & spoken) is mandatory for safety protocols, site inductions, and client interaction.
  • Right to Work: You must currently reside in New Zealand and hold a valid work visa or residency.


Bonus Points (Not required, but a big plus):

  • Tig experience, WTR endorsements or current EWP/working at heights certs and first aid certificate.
