Downer is proud to be commencing long ‑ term Road Maintenance and Surfacing contracts across the Southland region. We’re excited to recruit skilled people from local communities to help maintain and enhance the region’s roading network, keeping Southland moving.


The Opportunity


We're looking for an experienced Truck & Trailer Driver to join our Southland team.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the road, takes pride in their truck, and has experience moving materials safely and efficiently. You'll be responsible for a range of cartage activities, supporting our road maintenance, surfacing and construction crews across Southland.

From chip cartage and bulk material haulage through to supporting maintenance operations, you'll play a key role in keeping our projects moving.


The position involves operating and maintaining truck and trailer units, transporting materials safely, completing vehicle checks and supporting wider crew activities when required


Day to day responsibilities:


  • Full truck and trailer cartage operations across the Southland region
  • Transport sealing chip, aggregate, bulk materials and spoil
  • Maintenance metalling and aggregate spreading
  • Support sealing, road maintenance and construction projects
  • Load, transport and unock materials safely
  • Complete pre start checks and maintain your vehicle
  • Complete required logbooks, timesheets and documentation
  • Support the wider crew when needed


Important Skills


  • Class 5 licence
  • Truck and trailer driving experience
  • Experience in chip cartage, metalling or aggregate/bulk haulage preferred
  • Good knowledge of load restraint and safe transport practices
  • Strong commitment to health and safety
  • Reliable, team-focused attitude
  • Civil construction or road maintenance experience is an advantage
