Principal Structural Engineer

Industrial / Power / Energy Focus

$160,000 - $170,000 base salary

Auckland CBD / Hybrid working


The Company


Is a well established multi-disciplinary consultancy with a wide variety of projects and a strong forward workload.


Due to continued growth they are seeking a Chartered Structural Engineer with strong technical capability, proven leadership experience, and the commercial maturity to contribute to client relationships, project delivery, and long-term business growth.


This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer to step into a senior leadership role with a clear pathway from Principal level into an Associate Director position over time, subject to performance and business alignment.


You will lead complex structural engineering projects, provide technical authority, mentor engineers, support key client relationships, and play an active role in strategic growth across the business.


The role will be focussed on the industrial, power and energy sectors.

The Role

  • As a senior member of the structural team, you will provide technical leadership and engineering authority across a range of structural projects, ensuring the delivery of safe, sustainable, high-quality, and compliant design solutions.
  • Your role will involve leading complex engineering decisions, embedding Safety in Design principles, maintaining technical excellence, and supporting business performance through strong client management and project delivery.
  • Leading structural engineering projects from concept through to delivery
  • Providing technical review, guidance, and engineering authority across complex projects
  • Mentoring and developing engineers within the team
  • Managing client relationships and contributing to business development opportunities
  • Supporting high standards across quality, safety, compliance, and project performance
  • Reviewing and approving designs, specifications, reports, and technical documentation


About You

  • You will be a technically strong, commercially minded Structural Engineer who is comfortable leading people, managing complex projects, and building trusted client relationships.
  • CPEng status
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a higher relevant qualification
  • Minimum 10 years' structural engineering experience, ideally including at least two years in a leadership role
  • Strong New Zealand consultancy and project delivery experience
  • Producer Statement author capability for Auckland Council - Structural
  • Experience across industrial and power/energy sector projects
  • Experience with seismic assessment, strengthening, temporary works, and complex project delivery
  • Proven leadership of teams and projects
  • Strong client relationship management, influencing, and commercial capability
  • A strong understanding of relevant standards, legislation, codes of practice, materials, and construction methodologies
