  • Based in Wellington, Hawke's Bay and Hamilton, with flexible working supported.


Mō te tūnga | About the role


As a People Adviser you will work within a People Services team, providing general People & Capability advice and support to line managers across the Department of Corrections, Ara Poutama Aotearoa. The People Adviser develops, fosters and maintains excellent working relationships with managers to assist them to meet their business objectives.

In addition, you will support our staff by responding to general employment related queries on a variety of matters as required. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with the business in a support capacity alongside the Senior People Advisers across the motu.


You will be responsible for the core delivery of People & Capability services including managing end to end processes through our People Hub for staff changes and providing guidance to managers on staffing processes.

You are a positive, proactive and approachable person who enjoys working with others and isn't afraid to roll up your sleeves and get things done. You'll also be comfortable working in a hybrid environment, as you may be working across multiple sites.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in providing generalist HR/People advice and support to managers and staff.
  • Experience working within the public sector, or within a large or complex organisation.
  • A sound understanding of employment legislation and its practical application.
  • Excellent problem-solving and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build strong, professional working relationships.
  • Comfort working with a variety of systems, platforms and technologies, and the ability to pick up new systems with ease.

The midpoint of the salary range is $89,225 per annum and the full range (85%-120%) is $75,842 - $107,070 per annum. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
