Stratford ITM is locally owned and operated and part of New Zealand's largest group of independent timber, hardware and building supply merchants.


We're looking for a reliable and responsible Truck Driver / Yardperson to join our team.


This is more than just a driving role. You'll be responsible for delivering building materials safely and efficiently, while also getting involved in the yard and helping keep customer orders moving.


What you'll be doing:


  • Coordinating deliveries with the Delivery Co-ordinator and yard team
  • Confirming customers have been notified of delivery times
  • Loading your own truck and checking all required materials are onboard
  • Planning loads efficiently to minimise unnecessary trips
  • Delivering farm buildings and yard orders safely and on time
  • Loading and securing building materials correctly
  • Maintaining Stratford ITM standards across the delivery operation
  • Keeping the truck clean, tidy and well maintained
  • Carrying out general yard duties when not making deliveries
  • Loading and unloading trucks with a forklift as required
  • Monitoring the daybook and ensuring orders are ready and correct
  • Keeping the workshop and yard clean, tidy and organised
  • Communicating professionally with customers and team members
  • Monitoring stock levels and reporting when replenishment is required
  • Checking the Hi-Ab truck's RUC, COF and registration are current


About you


We're looking for someone who is:


  • A confident and responsible driver
  • Reliable, punctual and safety-focused
  • Organised and able to plan deliveries efficiently
  • Customer-focused and professional
  • A good communicator who enjoys dealing with customers
  • Able to work independently and use initiative
  • Happy to get stuck into general yard work between deliveries
  • Physically fit and comfortable with hands-on work
  • Experienced with loading and securing building materials


Experience in building supplies, a timber yard, transport or a similar environment would be an advantage.


Forklift experience or a current forklift licence would also be beneficial.


Licence requirements


A Class 2 licence is essential. A current Hiab Ticket / operating experience would be an advantage.
