About the Opportunity

We are partnering with a government agency seeking an experienced Senior Policy Analyst to join their policy team on a 4-6 month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned policy professional who enjoys working on complex, high-profile issues and contributing to significant government decisions.

This role sits firmly within the strategic, “Big P” policy space. You’ll work on complex and often ambiguous issues, helping shape policy direction by identifying options, assessing trade-offs, and developing robust evidence-based advice for senior leaders and Ministers.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Senior Policy Analyst, you will:

  • Lead strategic policy projects and work programmes
  • Develop high-quality policy advice for Ministers and senior decision-makers
  • Prepare Cabinet papers and supporting briefing material
  • Lead and contribute to Regulatory Impact Statements (RIS) and Regulatory Analysis Statements (RAS)
  • Analyse complex issues and identify strategic policy options
  • Apply funding and regulatory levers to support policy outcomes
  • Engage with stakeholders across government and the wider sector
  • Present clear, concise recommendations on complex issues

What We’re Looking For

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:

  • 4-5+ years’ experience in strategic public policy roles
  • Strong “Big P” policy capability, including shaping policy direction rather than solely implementation policy
  • Demonstrated experience leading RIS/RAS processes
  • Proven experience developing Cabinet papers and Ministerial advice
  • Experience working with funding and regulatory policy levers
  • Exceptional analytical and critical-thinking skills
  • Strong judgement and political awareness
  • The ability to work effectively through ambiguity and complexity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and decision-makers
