Job Description

Chow: Hill Architects is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join their team and take ownership of the organisation’s finance function. Reporting to the CEO, this is a broad and hands-on role combining financial management, commercial analysis, leadership and strategic support.You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with the CEO and Directors, lead a small team, and play an important role in supporting the ongoing growth and performance of the business.


What you'll do:


As Finance Manager, you will take responsibility for the full finance function while providing commercial insight and leadership across the business. Your responsibilities will include:


  • Lead and mentor a team of three, including workload allocation, development and performance management.
  • Partner with the CEO and Directors on financial and strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare monthly P&Ls, Board reports and regular financial performance analysis.
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning and weekly financial forecasts.
  • Monitor business performance against budgets and long-term strategic objectives.
  • Provide commercial analysis, including project profitability and pricing for new project bids.
  • Oversee month-end, year-end and financial reporting, including reconciliations and General Ledger activities.
  • Oversee A/R, A/P, billing, payroll and other core accounting functions.
  • Ensure GST, FBT, RWT, tax and other statutory requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Maintain strong financial controls, processes and compliance across the business.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and implement finance systems, processes and reporting.
  • Liaise with external accountants, advisors, clients, consultants and suppliers.
  • Provide broader support to the CEO across business operations and HR matters.


What you bring:


  • CAANZ or equivalent professional membership is preferred.
  • 1–3 year’s experience in a finance leadership or management role.
  • Strong experience across transactional accounting, month-end reporting, tax compliance, budgeting, forecasting and payroll.
  • Proven experience leading, developing and supporting a finance team.
  • Strong financial analysis and commercial acumen, including budgeting, invoicing, debt recovery and cash flow management.
  • Highly proficient in Xero and Excel.
  • Strong understanding of New Zealand financial and employment legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with senior stakeholders.
  • Organised, proactive and results-focused, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Experience developing effective business relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Professional services accounting experience, including WIP, earned value and project reporting, is desirable.
