Job Description

We are looking for energetic and reliable School Holiday Programme Workers to help deliver a fun, safe and engaging programme for tamariki in Lower Hutt during the January 2027 school holidays.

  • Fixed-term school holiday role, Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
  • Work roughly 40 hours per week across the school holiday programme.
  • Join a positive team environment where safety, fun and care come first.

This is a hands-on role where you will work alongside programme staff to supervise children with diabilities, support activities and help create a welcoming environment for the children and their whānau. You will bring energy, patience and practical support to each day, helping children feel included, encouraged and well cared for. Reporting to the Programme Leader, you will facilitate meaningful activities and support children to engage in a variety of tasks.

The school holiday programme runs for 2 weeks over the Term 4 school holiday period (11th-22nd January 2027)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support children during programme activities, outings and transitions.
  • Help set up, run and pack down games, arts and crafts, sports, themed activities and group challenges.
  • Create a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all children.
  • Encourage participation, teamwork and positive behaviours.
  • Communicate clearly with children, parents, caregivers and team members.
  • Follow programme procedures, health and safety expectations and safeguarding requirements.
  • Willing to support people with their personal cares, which can include bathing, dressing and toileting.

What we are looking for:

You will be someone who enjoys working with children and can bring a calm, positive and practical approach to a busy programme setting. You do not need to have held this exact role before, but experience with children, youth, sports, recreation, education or community programmes would be an advantage.

  • Experience working with children is preferred; training may be provided for the right person.
  • First Aid certification would be an advantage.
  • A full driver licence would be an advantage as outings or transport are part of the programme.
  • You must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
  • The successful applicant may be required to complete safety checks, including Police vetting, in line with child safety requirements.

You will be:

  • Available for the entirety of the school holiday period.
  • Reliable, punctual and well organised.
  • Committed and passionate for supporting people with disabilities to live great lives.
  • Friendly, energetic and patient.
  • Confident communicating with children and adults.
  • Able to use initiative and stay calm in a busy environment.
  • Committed to creating a safe, inclusive and fun space for tamariki.
