About the role:


We are seeking a capable and commercially minded Legal Compliance and Risk Analyst to join our team based in our Auckland office. You will work closely with and support the Legal Support Director, the Legal Compliance and Risk Advisor, and the Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer in a wide range of compliance and risk management activities across the firm.


This is an excellent opportunity to play an integral role in safeguarding Bell Gully’s compliance and risk framework, enabling our people to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients and the firm.


The Legal Compliance and Risk Analyst will build and maintain relationships with partners, board members, senior management, lawyers, business support teams and external stakeholders on a wide range of compliance and risk related matters including:


  • Supporting the review, negotiation and management of client engagement terms and related records;
  • Assisting with client compliance reviews, audits and governance questionnaires including modern slavery, anti-bribery and corruption, IT security and broader governance matters;
  • Supporting the firm’s AML/CFT compliance framework, including customer due diligence, procedures, controls and development and delivery of training;
  • Assisting with conflicts management and information barrier processes and;
  • Maintaining and enhancing compliance, privacy, risk management and AI governance resources, policies and guidance materials.


To be successful in this role you must have:


  • A law degree and 3 or more years PQE in Corporate/Commercial law
  • Demonstrated experience in compliance and risk management, or functions requiring similar skill sets
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to negotiate, influence and provide pragmatic solutions in complex legal, compliance and risk environments
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate, complete and well-structured records
  • A commitment to teamwork, with the ability to work collaboratively and use initiative and sound judgement to deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Excellent relationship building and maintaining skills with the ability to establish trust and credibility across all levels of the business
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain legal, compliance and risk matters clearly and effectively to a range of audiences
  • An interest in and/or understanding of the compliance, governance and risk management activities and considerations that support the responsible use of emerging technologies, including AI
  • Experience supporting designing and delivering training or facilitating workshops in person and virtual environments
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.
