Through this partnership, the wiq team harnesses the best of Woolworths Group and Quantium data science and analytics talent to reimagine retail by solving the most complex problems using AI and analytics. As a team, we leverage Agile ways of working to help our team develop their skills while also making sure our team is focusing on solving the most complex problems for both our customers and team.


The purpose of the wiqNZ team is to unlock the power of data to imagine retail, which contributes to making Kiwis’ lives a little better every day. We work closely with all WWNZ business units, as well as with the broader wiq team.


What you’ll do:

The wiqNZ team unlocks the power of data to reimagine retail and make Kiwis’ lives better every day. As a Senior Data, AI, and ML Engineer, you will architect and deploy advanced models using agentic workflows, autonomous coding agents, and robust AI governance frameworks to scale our data capabilities. Beyond model deployment, you will design clean, semantic data architectures and cloud warehousing environments that enable AI agents to build, test, and govern pipelines autonomously. Working closely with cross functional teams, you will turn business challenges into trusted data solutions, establish core engineering patterns, and mentor junior team members.

  • Design, deploy, and manage multi-agent ecosystems, autonomous coding agents, and generative AI capabilities like retrieval-augmented generation and vector embeddings.
  • Build clean, structured data architectures using dimensional modeling and cloud warehousing to ensure schemas are easily interpretable by LLMs and AI agents.
  • Deploy automated agentic testing frameworks to manage non-deterministic model outputs, validate data quality, and enforce enterprise performance standards.
  • Establish comprehensive AI governance and observability structures to monitor for data drift, concept drift, algorithmic bias, and hallucinations.
  • Implement strict security guardrails and responsible AI practices to mitigate risks such as prompt injection and data exfiltration, ensuring protection of PII and full auditability for all AI-assisted workflows.
  • Track and optimize cloud compute expenditures across model token usage, efficient BigQuery processing, and cost-effective Vertex AI endpoint scaling.
  • Translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions through direct collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Promote modern engineering standards, mentor junior team members, and conduct regular peer reviews to elevate technical capabilities across the team.


What you’ll bring:

You bring a strong experimental and product led mindset, with a proven ability to manage stakeholder expectations effectively. You thrive in fast paced environments, comfortably driving rapid, iterative prototyping cycles to turn early proof of concept ideas into robust production solutions.


  • Hands-on experience with GenAI production frameworks (e.g., Vector Databases, LangChain, ADK) and agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Github Copilot).
  • Proven ability to build and maintain end-to-end data pipelines using modern cloud ecosystems, specifically BigQuery, Vertex AI, DBT and Apache Airflow.
  • Practical knowledge of cloud platforms, microservices, and distributed computing, with Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes preferred.
  • Advanced skills in Python and modern development tools, alongside hands-on experience using agentic coding assistants.
  • Strong background in statistical modeling, machine learning frameworks, and robust MLOps practices for scalable deployment.
  • Deep understanding of data warehousing methodologies (eg Kimball).
  • Solid software engineering foundation utilizing Git, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and disciplined testing practices.
  • Track record of working in technical project teams and delivering complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives in agile, cross-functional environments.
  • Relevant cloud certifications, such as Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer or Cloud Architect, are highly advantageous.
  • Full stack development experience is an advantage.
