Site Safety Supervisor

Auckland - Fixed-Term Contract


Are you an experienced Health & Safety professional who enjoys being in the field, working alongside crews and ensuring critical controls are effective where they matter most?


We are seeking a hands-on Site Safety Supervisor to support a major project within an operating fuel terminal. This site-based role focuses on safety leadership, critical risk verification, permit compliance and helping construction teams deliver work safely and efficiently.


About the Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day safety assurance across multiple work fronts, ensuring activities are undertaken in accordance with approved safety plans, permits, procedures and critical risk controls.


Key activities will include:

  • Conduct site inspections, audits and verify critical safety controls across active work fronts.
  • Monitor permits, isolations, confined space activities and high-risk work compliance.
  • Oversee lifting operations, scaffolding, work at height and hot work activities.
  • Participate in pre-starts, work planning and provide practical safety guidance to site teams.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses while managing corrective actions and safety reporting.
  • Coordinate with contractors and stakeholders to ensure safe project delivery and emergency readiness.


About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • NZ Level 4 Health & Safety qualification (or equivalent) with 5+ years' site-based HSE experience.
  • Strong background in high-risk industrial, construction, shutdown or maintenance environments.
  • Proven knowledge of permits, confined spaces, isolations, lifting, work at height and hot work.
  • Current First Aid certification and experience investigating incidents and corrective actions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across multiple contractors and workgroups.
  • Confident promoting safe work practices and influencing positive safety behaviours on site.


Highly Regarded

  • Diploma-level H&S qualifications, NEBOSH, IOSH or similar
  • ICAM or equivalent investigation training
  • Experience working around tank infrastructure, fuel terminals, refineries, energy facilities or other high-hazard sites
  • Knowledge of occupational hygiene and exposure monitoring programmes
