Job Description

Unite Recruit is looking for experienced CLASS 4 DRIVERS to join civil construction and infrastructure projects across the Wellington region.

  • $30-$34 per hour, depending on experience
  • Immediate & Ongoing Opportunities

About the Role

We are looking for reliable drivers with a strong understanding of civil construction environments, who are confident operating Class 4 trucks and working safely around site crews, plant and heavy machinery.

Road Ranger gearbox experience is preferred, particularly for candidates who have experience operating heavy vehicles in demanding civil construction environments.


  • What You'll Be Doing Operating Class 4 trucks across civil construction sites and public roads
  • Transporting materials, equipment and aggregate to and from worksites
  • Loading, unloading and securing loads safely
  • Completing pre-start checks and basic vehicle inspections
  • Following designated routes, site instructions and traffic management requirements
  • Working alongside excavator operators, labourers and civil construction crews
  • Assisting with general civil site duties when required
  • Maintaining accurate delivery and vehicle records
  • Reporting vehicle faults, hazards and incidents promptly
  • Following all company, site and NZ road safety requirements
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and well-presented vehicle
  • What You'll Receive $30–$34 per hour, depending on experience

What We Need

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • A current NZ Class 4 Driver Licence
  • Previous Class 4 driving experience
  • Experience working in civil construction or related industries
  • Good knowledge of load restraint and safe vehicle operation
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements
  • Good communication skills
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A professional attitude and strong work ethic
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test

Road Ranger Experience Preferred

Experience operating a Road Ranger manual gearbox is highly desirable.

Experience with heavy manual trucks, tip trucks, tippers or other civil construction vehicles will also be advantageous.


Additional Tickets & Experience

The following are advantageous but not essential:

  • Class 5 licence
  • WTR endorsements
  • Wheels, Tracks & Rollers experience
  • F endorsement
  • HIAB experience
  • Tip truck experience
  • Experience with aggregate, quarry or earthworks operations
  • Experience working around heavy plant and machinery
