Heavy Disel Mechanic


Are you a trade-qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic or experienced Mechanic looking for your next opportunity? We’re looking for skilled mechanics to join a busy maintenance operation supporting heavy equipment used across the logging and contracting sector. If you enjoy fault finding, preventative maintenance and keeping hard-working machinery performing at its best, this could be the opportunity for you.


Location: Central Dunedin, Dunedin – may also suit candidates open to opportunities around Balclutha

Start date: By arrangement – reasonably soon

Pay rate: $38–$42 per hour + weekly pay


The Role

You’ll be involved in servicing, maintaining and repairing a diverse range of heavy diesel equipment. This is a hands-on, workshop-based opportunity with a varied workload, where strong mechanical and diagnostic skills will be valued.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy diesel equipment
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults
  • Complete workshop repairs and breakdown maintenance as required
  • Conduct inspections and identify maintenance requirements
  • Maintain accurate service records and job documentation
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and to a high standard
  • Work collaboratively with the wider maintenance and operations teams

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Trade qualification as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic or equivalent industry experience
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy diesel equipment
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • A commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivation and strong time management skills
