We are looking for a friendly and hardworking Catering Assistant to join our ESS team at the New Zealand Air Force Base in Whenuapai, Auckland .


This is a Permanent Part-Time position offering 20 guaranteed hours per week .

You will help prepare and serve quality food, maintain clean and safe kitchen and dining areas, and deliver excellent service to customers. This is a great opportunity to work in a unique Defence environment where teamwork, safety and supporting our people are always important.


Ko o kawenga / Your responsibilities


  • Provide warm, friendly and professional customer service
  • Assist with preparing, portioning, presenting and serving food
  • Clean and maintain kitchen, dining and public areas
  • Wash and safely store dishes, pots, pans and kitchen equipment
  • Replenish food, beverages and other supplies when required
  • Follow all food safety, hygiene, health and safety procedures


He kōrero mōu / About you


  • Previous experience in a catering, hospitality or kitchen environment
  • A friendly, reliable and hardworking approach
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Able to work independently and support the wider team
  • Physically fit and comfortable working in a busy environment
  • NZQA Food Handling Certificate Units 167 and 168 would be an advantage
