Governance Lead role with a well known New Zealand insurance business, building the frameworks that let a fast growing AI function scale responsibly.

As AI adoption accelerates across this business, someone needs to make sure it scales responsibly. This is a newly created leadership role at a well known New Zealand financial services organisation that has spent the last six months building out a genuinely capable AI function, and now needs an experienced governance lead to build the frameworks that let the business move fast without losing control.


You will not be running the AI use cases yourself. You will be the person who makes sure they are governed properly, from data quality through to responsible AI oversight.


The Role

  • Develop and operationalise enterprise data and AI governance frameworks, policies, standards and controls
  • Lead data quality, metadata, lineage, ownership and stewardship initiatives across business domains
  • Govern AI and advanced analytics across the full lifecycle, including use case assessment, testing, human oversight, monitoring and incident management
  • Partner closely with technical delivery teams, the AI function and enterprise Risk and Compliance
  • Prepare governance reporting and evidence for senior forums, assurance providers, auditors or regulators
  • Work closely alongside the AI Delivery Lead to keep data and AI initiatives aligned and well governed

What You'll Bring


Must haves:

  • 7+ years' experience in data governance, information governance, AI governance, privacy, risk, compliance, data management or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience developing and operationalising enterprise governance frameworks, policies, standards and controls
  • Practical experience leading data quality, metadata, lineage, ownership, stewardship or data access initiatives
  • Experience governing AI or advanced analytics across the lifecycle, including testing, human oversight, monitoring and incident management
  • Experience partnering with technical delivery teams and Risk or Compliance functions
  • Experience preparing governance reporting for senior forums, auditors or regulators

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in insurance, financial services or another regulated, operationally complex environment (strongly preferred)
  • Data governance, privacy, risk, assurance or responsible AI certifications
