We're looking for a capable, mechanically minded Hedge Trimming Machine Operator who takes pride in their work and wants more than just another job.


This is a specialised, hands-on role operating a truck-mounted hedge and shelterbelt trimming machine throughout North Canterbury, from the Rakaia to the Conway River.


It's not simply about driving a truck. You'll be trusted to operate valuable equipment, make decisions in challenging conditions, solve problems and deliver quality results while dealing directly with customers.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Operating a specialised truck-mounted trimming machine
  • Trimming farm and lifestyle shelterbelts, hedges and treelines
  • Carrying out height reductions, roadside and powerline vegetation trimming
  • Assessing jobs, planning your approach and adapting to site conditions
  • Completing machine inspections, routine maintenance and identifying potential issues
  • Communicating with customers and ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard


What we're looking for:


We want someone who is confident behind the wheel, understands machinery and can be trusted to get the job done properly.


You'll need:


  • A current Class 4 heavy vehicle licence
  • Strong truck and machinery operating skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and a good understanding of equipment maintenance
  • Practical problem-solving skills and sound judgement
  • The confidence to work independently and take ownership of your work
  • A reliable work ethic, attention to detail and pride in a job well done
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach with customers


Experience operating heavy vehicles, agricultural machinery or specialised equipment will be highly regarded.

You'll need to be confident without being careless, decisive without being reckless, and capable of recognising when something isn't right.
