Summary

Join ourcompassionate Nelson team providing support for tangata whai ora in a peacefulcrisis respite setting in The Wood. Using trauma-informed and AOD recoveryapproaches, you’ll help create a safe and supportive space for people.


Therole | Mō tēneitūrangamahi

We’re seeking a part-time Support Worker to joinour team in Nelson. Based in a beautiful villa in The Wood, surrounded bytranquil trees and gardens, our 24/7 Crisis Respite and acute-admittingcommunity house provides short-term support for people experiencing mental healthdistress who are unable to remain at home. In this role, you’ll play a vitalpart in supporting tangata whai ora to rest, recover, and refocus usingtrauma-informed and AOD recovery approaches.

This shift is Sunday & Monday, 7am – 3.30pm.


You’llalso:

  • Focusing on the individuals needs and providing culturally safe practice
  • Relevant administrative tasks, comprehensive notes and effective handover, and supporting and collaborating with your colleagues
  • You’ll need to be prepared to support our clients to do whatever it takes using a recovery model


About You | Mōu

Forthis role, mental health experience is essential and a minimum qualification ofthe NZ Level 4 Health and Well Being certificate is required (or an equivalentqualification or be currently working towards it). To check equivalency goto https://www.tewhatuora.govt.nz/our-health-system/pay-equity-settlements/care-and-support-workers-pay-equity-settlement/pay-equity-and-qualification-equivalencies. A calm caring demeanour is essential and skills in de-escalation andmindfulness are valued.  You’ll align with our commitment to arecovery-focused approach and have the ability to provide medication supportwith meticulous attention to detail.

You’llhave:

  • New Zealand Certificate Level 4 in Health and Wellbeing (or a recognised equivalent, or currently studying towards it).
  • Some mental health experience is needed
  • A full New Zealand drivers licence
  • You must hold a current comprehensive first aid certificate or be willing to obtain one.
  • Applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand.  This role is not supported under the AEWV.
