He angitūtanga / The opportunity:


We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Fixed Term Cleaning Assistant to join our ESS team at NZDF Waiouru Military Camp. This parental leave cover position is for approximately eight months, commencing as soon as possible and ending on 11 June 2027.


You will use a range of cleaning materials and equipment to maintain accommodation rooms and facilities in a clean, hygienic and welcoming condition. This position requires a proactive commitment to safety and the correct use of all equipment and procedures provided by Compass Group.


Waiouru is located on the south-eastern North Island Volcanic Plateau, approximately 25 kilometres south-east of Mount Ruapehu. With Tongariro National Park and Whanganui National Park nearby, the area offers access to unique outdoor experiences and an active local community.


Ko o kawenga / Your responsibilities:


  • Clean accommodation rooms, bathrooms, buildings and shared facilities to a high standard
  • Vacuum, mop, dust, disinfect surfaces and complete basic stain removal
  • Make beds and prepare clean, comfortable and welcoming rooms for guests
  • Remove waste and replenish bathroom and cleaning supplies
  • Use cleaning equipment, materials and chemicals safely and correctly
  • Follow company health and safety procedures and assist with urgent cleans and spills


He kōrero mōu / About you:


  • Previous experience in a similar cleaning role would be advantageous
  • High standards of cleanliness and personal presentation
  • A reliable, hardworking, honest and flexible approach to work
  • Good communication skills and a friendly, positive can-do attitude
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Physical fitness and a strong commitment to health and safety
  • A valid New Zealand driver licence would be preferred but is not essential
