Your Future at BDO Northland

BDO Northland combines the resources of a global network with the close-knit culture of a respected regional firm. You’ll work directly with Partners, influence client outcomes and support a varied portfolio across SMEs, trusts, farming, Māori business, forestry and other regional industries.

Based in Kerikeri, you’ll enjoy genuine work-life balance, short commutes and easy access to the beaches and outdoor lifestyle of the Bay of Islands. Whether you’re already in Northland, returning home or ready for a change of pace, this is an opportunity worth exploring. If you're considering a move, we can also provide relocation support to help make the transition as seamless as possible.

About the Role

As a Senior Manager in our Business Advisory team, you'll work closely with clients to identify business issues, develop practical solutions and turn plans into action. Your focus will be helping clients plan for sustainable business growth while building strong, trusted relationships.

You'll operate with a high level of autonomy, manage your own and the team's workflow and complete final high-level reviews before Partner or Director sign-out. You'll also provide structuring and tax advice, apply your technical expertise to complex client matters, and contribute to the growth of new and existing client relationships.

This is an opportunity to combine technical leadership, commercial thinking and people development in a senior role with direct Partner engagement and potential succession opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify client issues, develop commercially sound solutions and clearly communicate recommendations
  • Provide business structuring, accounting and tax advice across a broad range of matters with a diverse set of clients
  • Complete final high-level reviews of work before Partner or Director review and sign-out, ensuring a high standard of accuracy
  • Manage your own workflow and team workflow, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Use your technical or industry expertise to support new and existing clients with business growth
  • Build capability across the team by motivating, coaching and mentoring junior team members
  • Develop a technical or industry specialisation aligned with your interests and the needs of clients

Experience and Attributes

You'll be a commercially minded and relationship-focused accounting professional who combines strong technical capability with confident leadership and an excellent service ethic.

You'd likely bring:

  • At least six years of Business Advisory experience, with New Zealand public practice experience highly regarded
  • A CA qualification and CA ANZ membership, supported by strong expertise across accounting standards and New Zealand tax
  • Proven people leadership, with the ability to motivate, coach and develop high-performing teams
  • Strong commercial, analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent client relationship and communication capability
  • A genuine desire to build a long-term career in Northland and explore future leadership opportunities
