Retail Supervisor – Freshlink Grocer

Wānaka | Permanent, full-time


Freshlink is an independent grocery business based in Wānaka, connecting customers with quality whole foods, local growers, producers and artisans. As our retail operation continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Retail Supervisor to help coordinate our customer-facing team and maintain the high service and presentation standards expected at Freshlink.


Working closely with the Retail Manager, this is a hands-on supervisory role with responsibility for the smooth day-to-day operation of the retail floor. You will coordinate staff, organise rosters and daily work, support team development, resolve customer issues and ensure Freshlink's retail standards are consistently maintained.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Coordinating the day-to-day activities of retail team members and allocating duties according to store requirements.
  • Preparing and maintaining staff rosters and adjusting team coverage where required to meet operational needs.
  • Supervising retail staff throughout the trading day and ensuring agreed customer-service and operational standards are maintained.
  • Supporting the induction, training and development of retail team members and providing guidance on more complex customer and sales situations.
  • Monitoring staff performance and providing practical feedback and support to the Retail Manager where performance or staffing issues arise.
  • Acting as a point of escalation for customer enquiries, complaints, returns and other service issues, and determining an appropriate response.
  • Maintaining Freshlink's standards for store presentation, merchandising and the overall customer experience.
  • Ensuring products are appropriately displayed, labelled and priced and that promotional and seasonal displays are implemented correctly.
  • Monitoring stock availability on the retail floor, coordinating replenishment and identifying stock requirements for ordering.
  • Assisting with stocktakes and maintaining accurate stock and retail records.
  • Overseeing checkout and POS processes and helping ensure cash, EFTPOS and other payment procedures are followed accurately and securely.
  • Supporting opening, closing and other daily store procedures.
  • Ensuring retail staff follow Freshlink's food-safety, health and safety, security and loss-prevention procedures.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve retail processes, presentation and customer experience and contributing to Freshlink's continuous-improvement approach.
  • Reporting significant staffing, customer, stock or operational matters to the Retail Manager.


What we are looking for


Applicants must have:


  • At least 2 years' relevant experience in retail, grocery retail, customer service or a comparable retail environment
  • Experience supervising, coordinating or providing day-to-day direction to other staff.
  • Experience with staff rostering or organising team coverage.
  • Strong customer-service skills, including experience dealing with complaints and more difficult customer situations.
  • Practical experience with merchandising, stock control and maintaining retail presentation standards.
  • Confidence using POS, inventory and general business systems.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy retail environment.


Experience in grocery or food retail, familiarity with Revel POS, and an interest in whole foods and locally produced goods would be advantageous.

Location: Freshlink Grocer, 82 Anderson Road, Wānaka 9305

• Employment: Permanent, full-time

• Pay: NZD $35.00 per hour

• Minimum guaranteed hours: 30 hours per week

• Hours: minimum 30 hours per week, rostered across Freshlink's seven-day operation

• All hours worked will be paid at the applicable hourly rate.
