Downer is proud to be commencing long ‑ term Road Maintenance and Surfacing contracts across the Southland region. We’re excited to recruit skilled people from local communities to help maintain and enhance the region’s roading network, keeping Southland moving.


The Opportunity


We are looking for an experienced Road Sweeper Operator to join our Southland Team (preferably Gore base).


This is a hands-on role where you will help keep the local road network, townships and surrounding areas clean, tidy and safe. You’ll operate our sweeper truck across a range of work, including township sweeping, cleaning kerbs and channels, catchpit cleaning, and sweeping ahead of reseal work.

You’ll take pride in looking after your truck, completing daily checks and making sure the equipment is operated safely and efficiently.


Day to day responsibilities:


  • Operating the road sweeper across Gore and surrounding areas
  • Township sweeping and cleaning kerbs and channels
  • Sweeping ahead of reseal operations and other road maintenance work
  • Carrying out cyclic catchpit cleaning
  • Identifying and reporting any faults or maintenance requirements
  • Completing logbooks, run sheets and other required paperwork
  • Working safely around the public, traffic and other crew members


Important Skills


  • A minimum Class 2 drivers licence
  • Previous road sweeper, truck or specialist operating experience
  • Good awareness when working around traffic and the public
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a crew
  • A strong focus on safety
