About the role:

We are seeking a highly capable Library and Research Supervisor to join our Library and Research Services (LRS) team. Based in our Auckland office, and reporting to and working alongside the Knowledge Manager, you will lead the day-to-day operation of our LRS function in both Auckland and Wellington. You will also support the Knowledge Manager with the strategic direction of the function. This is a unique opportunity to play an integral role in the effective provision of library and research services to the firm, in keeping with the overall direction of Bell Gullyu0027s knowledge management strategy.

The Library and Research Supervisor will work with partners, legal personnel, senior management and business support staff on a wide range of library and research matters. This will include:

  • Supporting the Knowledge Manager with annual LRS budget planning, managing and tracking expenditure within the agreed budget, and maintaining effective cost recovery procedures.
  • Providing and overseeing accurate, cost-effective and responsive research, including complex research requests, as well as national legal and business current awareness services.
  • Overseeing media and legislative monitoring, and leading internal education in the use of hardcopy and electronic information resources, including for summer clerks, graduates and new starters.
  • Curating the firmu0027s LRS collections, maintaining the library catalogue and overseeing its effective use, and maintaining the LRS portal page and in-house databases.
  • Supporting the Knowledge Manager, where required, with the negotiation of contracts with key suppliers.

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Library and Information Management studies or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in knowledge management, information services or a related discipline.
  • Experience using legal research platforms such as LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters or CCH.
  • Experience using AI-enabled research and information management tools.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a pragmatic and user-focused approach to delivering clear, accurate and practical research outcomes that meet stakeholder needs.
  • Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to actively listen to others, understand diverse needs and respond with understanding and respect.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills and the ability to establish trust and credibility across all levels of the business.
  • A strong service orientation, with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate, complete and well-structured records through robust systems and processes.
  • A commitment to teamwork, with the ability to work collaboratively and flexibly and use initiative and sound judgement to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Membership of the New Zealand Law Librarians Association (NZLLA) is desirable.
