Job Description

Join a welcoming kindergarten where culture, community and play are at the heart of learning.

Ngā Tamariki Puāwai o Tāmaki | Auckland Kindergarten Association (AKA) is seeking a passionate, qualified ECE Kaiako to join the team at Wesley Kindergarten in a permanent position.

About Wesley Kindergarten

Wesley Kindergarten is a warm and inclusive place where tamariki and whānau from diverse cultures and backgrounds are welcomed and valued. Relationships are central to our approach. We encourage whānau to be involved in kindergarten life and work together to help every tamaiti feel a strong sense of belonging.

Our kaiako create a caring and respectful environment where tamariki can build confidence, develop language and follow their interests. Through play, hands-on experiences and opportunities to explore the natural world, tamariki are supported to be curious, creative and independent learners.

You’ll join a dedicated team that enjoys working together and making the most of the kindergarten’s resources to create meaningful learning experiences. There is room to bring your own ideas, share your strengths and contribute to a programme that reflects the tamariki and community we serve.

The role

As an ECE Kaiako at Wesley, you’ll build strong relationships with tamariki and whānau, contribute to planning and assessment, and help create an environment where all tamariki can participate and thrive. You’ll work alongside your colleagues to strengthen our play-based programme, bicultural practice and commitment to inclusion.

To be successful, you will:

  • Be a registered ECE Kaiako with a current practising certificate
  • Current first aid certificate
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with tamariki, whānau and colleagues
  • Bring strong planning, assessment and documentation skills
  • Be confident supporting tamariki with diverse strengths and learning needs
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and bicultural practice
  • Enjoy hands-on teaching and following tamariki’s interests through play
  • Value nature and sustainability as part of learning
  • Work collaboratively while bringing initiative and fresh ideas to the team
  • Use technology thoughtfully where it enhances teaching and learning

Why join AKA?

You’ll be part of a supportive teaching team and have access to professional development opportunities. The role offers kindergarten term breaks and employment terms and conditions under the applicable collective agreement.

E rere te huata, kapohia! Seize every opportunity!

We welcome you to visit Wesley Kindergarten to meet the team and learn more about the role.
