Job Description

We have been mandated by Heartland Group Holdings Limited (NZX/ASX: HGH) to appoint a Group Strategy Lead to support the development and delivery of the Group’s strategic initiatives across New Zealand and Australia.

Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, this is a senior and highly visible role working closely with the HGH CEO and team, as well as senior leadership across Heartland Bank and Heartland Bank Australia.

The Group Strategy Lead will help identify, develop and lead strategic business initiatives across the Group, while also supporting the execution of strategic transactions. The role will require someone who can combine strong strategic and commercial judgement with the ability to take ownership of complex initiatives, navigate ambiguity and work collaboratively with senior stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and developing strategic business initiatives across Heartland Group
  • Supporting strategic analysis and development of recommendations to support key business decisions
  • Distilling complex strategic and commercial matters into clear and succinct recommendations for senior leadership
  • Supporting the execution of strategic transactions and other significant Heartland  Group initiatives
  • Working collaboratively with senior stakeholders across Heartland’s New Zealand and Australian businesses to drive initiatives through to delivery

We’re seeking candidates who offer:

  • Approximately 10–15 years’ relevant professional experience
  • Corporate strategy and/or corporate development experience, ideally underpinned by earlier experience in investment banking, corporate advisory or corporate law
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and lead complex strategic or business initiatives
  • Strong judgement, critical thinking and strategic decision-making capability
  • A self-starting approach and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and evolving situations
  • Clear and succinct written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong influencing skills and the ability to build effective relationships with senior stakeholders
  • The organisational awareness and judgement required to navigate a complex operating environment
  • Resilience, adaptability and a strong focus on achieving outcomes

This is an opportunity to take on a broad Group-level strategy mandate with direct exposure to Heartland’s senior leadership and play an important role in developing and executing strategic initiatives across its New Zealand and Australian businesses.
