Core Shed Technician


Looking for a hands-on role in the mining industry with a roster that gives you plenty of time off? Tradestaff is looking for a motivated Core Shed Technician to join a busy operation at Macraes. This is a physical, detail-focused role suited to someone who enjoys practical work, can confidently work with numbers and is comfortable working independently.


Location: Macraes Flat, East Otago

Start date: 7 September

Pay rate: $28 per hour


What you'll be doing


  • Handling and lifting core trays and boxes weighing up to 20–30 kg throughout the shift
  • Processing high volumes of drill core, with hundreds of core boxes moving through the shed
  • Measuring and marking drill core accurately to precise specifications
  • Cutting core samples using a diamond rock-saw with care and attention to detail
  • Recording, labelling and maintaining accurate sample data and documentation
  • Keeping the core shed and work areas clean, organised and safe
  • Assisting geologists and other team members as required


What we're looking for


  • A current Class 1 driver's licence
  • Good physical fitness and the ability to safely manage repetitive manual handling and heavy lifting
  • Confidence working with numbers, measurements and detailed information
  • Good computer competency, including experience with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite
  • A self-motivated and reliable approach, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to health, safety and environmental procedures
  • Previous mining, exploration or core shed experience would be an advantage
