About the Role :

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Decorator Operator (Printer) to join our innovative Production team in Auckland. This role is responsible for the operation of the decorators and base coater, including setting up labels, line production, process monitoring, periodic quality tests, cleaning, preventative maintenance and can size conversions. You will also be responsible for all equipment from the decorator/base coater in-feeds through to the internal sprays in-feed, including infeed and outfeed conveyors and the pin oven This is a shift-based role, working 12-hour shifts on a weekly rotating roster.


The Role Will Involve

Operating and maintaining the decorators and base coater to achieve pre-agreed output rates and ensure cans produced consistently meet specification.


🏭 Production Operations

Operate the decorators and base coater at pre-agreed output rates, carry out can size conversions across decorators, base coater, in-feed/out-feed track work and top hats as required, and manage tooling (inks and plates) within the prescribed system.


✅ Quality Assurance

Diligently carry out in-process quality checks, including visual can checks against the signed-off sample (colour & registration) at prescribed intervals, and bottom rim varnish checks covering over-varnish distribution, dents and scratches.


📊 Process Control & Record Keeping

Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools in daily production activities, accurately record and monitor process data, and promptly escalate any deviations or abnormal observations for corrective action. Accurately record quality test data (manual and electronic), PM checks and information, and cleaning schedules.


🔧 Equipment Maintenance & Housekeeping

Actively participate in preventative maintenance, cleaning and housekeeping for your area of responsibility, report any machine physical or functional defects or broken equipment immediately, and embrace the company's 5S philosophies (training provided).


🤝 Teamwork & Continuous Improvement

Work collaboratively across departments, and take on other duties in line with the grade and general level of responsibility as required.


🦺 Health, Safety & Food Safety

Undertake all duties in compliance with the company's Health & Safety and Food Safety programs — always working safely and within equipment safety features, reporting all accidents and near misses, completing line clearance tasks to meet food safety "foreign can" avoidance, ensuring QC cameras are always calibrated and in use, and maintaining personal hygiene practices to the required standard.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

○ Trade Certificate in Printing (Offset Gravure) preferred.

○ Previous experience operating decorators, base coaters or similar printing/production machinery is advantageous.

○ Ability to mount plates, change print cylinders and inks, and make registration adjustments.

○ Understanding of Health & Safety and Food Safety requirements, with the ability to apply these in daily work.

○ Ability to carry out quality tests, interpret quality test results and apply SPC tools.

○ Ability to operate machinery safely and efficiently, including can size changeovers.

○ Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

○ Good communication and teamwork skills.

○ Ability to follow instructions and work independently.

○ Physical stamina to lift and move materials. 💪

○ A proactive attitude, good housekeeping habits (5S) and a willingness to learn.
