Job Description

About MTF Finance

MTF Finance is punching above its weight in the competitive finance sector, and we’re on a mission to help Kiwis do more. People are at the heart of MTF’s success, so our people are well looked after. Enjoy competitive remuneration and rewards, opportunities to grow, and meaningful work in an energised and supportive environment. We’re a trusted household- brand, powered by local relationships, smart technology and a strong ambition to keep growing.

About the Role

This is a key role in MTF’s Marketing and Communications team, helping our people and nationwide network of franchises and dealerships understand what is happening across the business while strengthening MTF’s external profile and reputation.

You’ll lead our internal and network communications approach, own our communications channels and help the business communicate clearly, consistently and at the right time.

You’ll also lead MTF’s PR and earned media activity, leverage strong media relationships and advise senior leaders during significant business initiatives, organisational change and reputational issues.

This is not a general marketing or campaign role. It’s a senior, hands-on communications position for someone with excellent judgement, strong writing capability and the confidence to influence across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead MTF’s internal and network communications approach and channels.
  • Coordinate and prioritise communications requests from across the business.
  • Plan and deliver communications supporting business priorities and business change.
  • Develop leadership, business, media and stakeholder communications.
  • Lead MTF’s proactive PR and earned media activity.
  • Manage media relationships, enquiries, interviews and spokesperson preparation.
  • Own MTF’s crisis communications plan and lead responses to reputational issues.
  • Monitor engagement, media coverage and emerging risks.

What you’ll bring

  • At least seven years’ experience across communications and public relations, including internal communications and media relations.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to make complex information clear and engaging.
  • Experience developing communications strategies and turning them into practical plans.
  • Strong media knowledge and established relationship-management skills.
  • Confidence advising and preparing senior leaders.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to remain calm in sensitive or high-pressure situations.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification. Financial services or regulated industry experience would be helpful, but is not essential.

About you

You’re a proactive and experienced communicator who thinks carefully about what people need to know, when they need to know it and the best way to reach them.

You can move confidently between planning and delivery, from shaping a communications approach to writing the message yourself. You build trusted relationships, give clear advice and care about keeping people connected, protecting MTF’s reputation and telling its story well.
