Permanent | 0.8 FTE (30 hours per week)

Wellington Campus

Salary range: $71,274 to $101,329 (pro rata)

Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa, Massey University is seeking a Student Wellbeing Advisor to join

our University-wide Student Care Team. This rewarding role combines student case

management, wellbeing advice, staff capability building, education, and health promotion to help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.


Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role

As a Student Wellbeing Advisor, you will provide specialist wellbeing advice and support to students and staff, helping to recognise and respond to emotional distress, mental health concerns, and behaviours of concern. You will work collaboratively across the University and with external agencies to ensure students receive timely, appropriate, and holistic support. The role contributes to a shared University-wide wellbeing framework that supports student success, retention, and positive student experiences across our campuses, distance learners, and students studying offshore.

Central to this position is a grounding in Te Tiriti to uplifting student wellbeing, with a strong commitment to the values of whanaungatanga and manaakitanga in supporting student achievement and belonging.


Ko wai koe? | Who are you?

You will be a qualified and registered professional in a relevant discipline such as:

• Social Work

• Counselling

• Psychology

• Mental Health Nursing


You will also bring:

  • At least two years' relevant professional experience.
  • Strong assessment, communication, relationship management, and decision-making
  • skills.
  • Experience supporting people experiencing emotional distress or mental health
  • concerns.
  • The ability to manage complex and sensitive situations using sound professional
  • judgement.
  • A collaborative, culturally responsive, and student-centred approach.
  • A demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and supporting diverse
  • communities.


The following would be advantageous:

• Experience working within the tertiary education sector.

• Mental Health First Aid training, or equivalent.
