At Active Explorers Hokitika, relationships come first! Our centre is full of laughter, curiosity, muddy hands, and little moments that make a big difference. We’re all about creating a place where our tamariki and their whānau feel welcome, connected, and right at home.


We care for children aged 3 months to 6 years, and every day brings something new to discover. From creative adventures to outdoor exploration, we love creating opportunities for tamariki to learn, grow, build friendships, and let their personalities shine.


Our team is a friendly bunch who love sharing ideas, helping each other out, and celebrating the little wins along the way. We believe that when our kaiako feel supported and valued, amazing things happen! As an Enviroschools centre, we also love getting outdoors, getting our hands dirty, and helping tamariki develop a love for the natural world around them.


If you’re a Kaiako Certificated who brings warmth, enthusiasm, and a little bit of fun to everything you do, we’d love to hear from you! We have a fixed-term opportunity from November 2026 to July 2027, working 32 hours per week, at our Active Explorers Hokitika centre. What we're looking for in you:


  • You’re ECE qualified with current Full or Provisional Teaching Registration.
  • You’re passionate about helping tamariki learn, grow, and thrive.
  • You love play-based learning and creating opportunities for curiosity and discovery.
  • You enjoy building genuine relationships with tamariki, whānau, and your fellow kaiako.
  • You’re a team player who brings positive energy, fresh ideas, and a caring approach to your work.
